Budapest, April 6, 2023, Thursday (MTI) – On Hungarian Poetry Day, a commemoration titled “Verses in a Row” will be held at the József Attila Theater, by the Danube. On April 11, the company’s actors will pay tribute to the theater’s namesake with a József Attila poem each.
The actors will recite 19 rarely heard verses that defined the poet’s life. “Those who visit the József Attila Theater will experience an afternoon full of truly special poems,” according to the theater’s statement sent to MTI. The company members will draw poems from the phase of the poet’s life when he presented the poetry of everyday gestures and objects using everyday language.
Nemcsák Károly, the director of the company, will open the performance with the sudden beginning poem “Talán eltűnök.” Ujréti László, Zöld Csaba, Quintus Konrád, Kulcsár Viktória, and Lábodi Ádám are among the actors who will recite poems. The performance will conclude with two versions of the poem “Reménytelenül” recited by Horváth Csenge and Fekete Gábor. “The Danube connects people, languages, and cultures. Understanding and solidarity are today’s most important values, which the performance reinforces,” the statement reads.
The performance, which starts at 5 p.m. on April 11, is directed by Hargitai Iván, the artistic director of the theater. The program is free but registration is required.
